Can I Install Savant Myself?

Picture depicting a savant controller. Can I install savant myself?

Savant is one of the most powerful home automation and integration platforms available. It can be extremely complex or somewhat simple depending on the use case.

A registered Savant installer is the only person that can install a Savant system. Design, installation, programming, and testing are complex processes. Savant had a direct to consumer product for a short time, but discontinued it due to its complexity.

Many different companies install savant systems to fill this need. The design and installation could theoretically be done be the customer, but it is best left to a registered savant installer.

Why Savant is Installer only

Savant systems have some real power to them. They can act as an entertainment distribution system as well as a home automation platform.

This level of power can involve some serious complexity. When you add so many different devices and then attempt to make them work together, you have a system looking more like a spider web than a program.

Savant systems are only as good as the parts that they work with. If you were to try and use savant, you might not be aware of the items that don’t work well with savant.

Properly installed systems are Savant’s priority. It makes their products look good, and makes the customer happy. In order to have a properly installed system, then need professionals in the field.

The easiest way to maintain technical support is to have them make money out of the deal on their own.

Savant installers act as distributers, installers, and programmers. They know what they are doing, and can service Savant systems as they age. Normal consumers would struggle to do all these things.

Who You Should Contact

If you are in Colorado, you should contact us. Savvy Life AV has done countless Savant installations at every scale. Anything from 6 figure projects to a single media room.

If you are elsewhere in the country, there are a few other options.

You can do a quick search for a local Savant integrator, or go to Savants website and use their find an integrator tool.

Why its better that way

There are products for the DIY type person, and those products work fine. If you want a really high end experience, then you need to work with somebody that knows how to make that happen.

The reality is that the general consumer doesn’t have the time or desire to try and figure out Savant programs and hardware.

Professional Savant dealers know all the small subtleties of running Savant.

It generally takes more time than homeowners are willing to spend in order to get a Savant system running. There is a lot of complex relationships involved in a smart home system like Savant, which makes it easy to mess up.

Here are some main reasons you would want an installer to do it for you:

First, you really cant do it without one.

Second, it is unlikely that you would be able to learn all of the software necessary.

Third, you would likely use the wrong equipment for your situation.

Fourth, you might spend more money than you need to.

Fifth, you will have somebody to call when things break.

Lastly, you will be less stressed.

Lets talk about these things a bit more in depth:

The only way you could do it yourself

In theory, you could go through the proper channels and become a savant dealer just to install your own system, but this really wouldn’t work.

You would need to prove to Savant that you are proficient in their products be going through training and becoming a dealer. Savant is looking for partners that know what they are doing, so you would have to actually become an audio video integrator for not just yourself, but others as well.

In all honesty, this is not an option. Maybe you could find somebody that is willing to let you use their license for a while, but good luck.

Savant software is complex because it needs to be. In order to really get it working, you need to have experience and time to experiment. There is a reason Savant focuses so much on educating its dealers.

If you even could design a system yourself, you might cut corners on things that you really shouldn’t. Savant dealers know what works and what doesn’t, and can use your budget effectively to make a system consistently amazing.

The Benefits of Hiring an Installer

I can’t speak for other installers, but we take care of our people. Although we design our systems well, inevitably there is a period of getting rid of bugs. This refinement process can be somewhat slow as some bugs don’t show up for several months after use. Some products might overheat because of where they are placed, while others might have a flaw from manufacturing.

Integrators are focused on making sure that your system is working flawlessly, so you can always call them with changes if you need. We make sure that every worry is taken care of. People working on their own system can end up being frustrated that something is not working, and then end up calling us anyway.
